Here’s What Folks are Saying about Pricing Van Lines
We’ve made quite a few fans over the years. Here’s what some of them are saying about us:
The California Exodus Continues. We Can Help
California isn’t what it used to be. Driven by high taxes, a lack of public safety, and a ton of high-profile fires, more and more people are leaving the Golden State. There’s even a Wikipedia article on it.
But where should you head next? Flyovers are out of the question (you’ve still got some dignity left, after all), but most coastal states are crowded, expensive, and aside from the lack of fires, not much better than California. Unless you head east – and then south a bit.
Unlike California, Georgia has been experiencing an influx of transplants from all over the United States. And with lower prices, plenty of culture, and lots of work to be found, it’s easy to see why. Fortunately, getting there has never been easier, or cheaper.
At Pricing Van Lines, we think moving should be accessible and affordable for everyone. Book with us today, and we’ll help you save big with a custom moving plan and a team you can trust.

Moving Services from California to Georgia
Packing and Unpacking
We’ve been in the moving game long enough to know that packing is the hardest part of the job. Sure, you may have a couple of Amazon boxes lying around – but that’s not gonna cut it if you’re moving a whole house. And neither are a few t-shirts if you’re trying to keep your dishes safe.
When you book packing and unpacking with Pricing Van Lines, you’re getting a professional team to handle all the hard stuff. We’ll show up with high-quality packing supplies, and we’ll make sure it’s all wrapped with care by using eco-friendly padding materials.
Specialty Item Moving
For pianos, pool tables, artwork, and antiques, you’ll need a specialized team to keep it all in one piece. Specialty items demand extra TLC, and we’re here to provide it at affordable rates.
Specialty item handling is about more than just extra cardboard and bubble wrap. Sometimes, it involves building completely custom crates around whatever needs moving. And sometimes, it involves winching and hoisting items through windows when they’re too large to fit through doors. We make sure our teams are well-equipped for any job, and we make sure they’ve got the training, too.
Last Minute Moving
If it’s an emergency, we can get you moved ASAP. Most moving companies will hang up on you unless they’ve had a recent cancellation – or they’ll charge you an arm and a leg to rush deliver your stuff. We don’t play that game.
We think last minute moving should be available for everyone. That’s why we offer last minute moving for anyone trying to move from California to Georgia in a hurry. No need to wait around for cancellations, and no need to deal with your psycho roommates any longer than necessary.
How Long Does it Take to Move from California to Georgia?
California and Georgia are just over 1,912 miles apart at the closest, so expect your move to take at least 3 days. This is thanks to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). They’re the governing body in charge of all the rules for movers and drivers, and if a driver logs a suspiciously high amount of miles in an 11-hour day, he or she may be investigated for speeding.
Aside from the rules, there’s also the industry-wide practice of bundling. If your stuff doesn’t fill an entire truck or trailer, your movers won’t want to send it immediately. After all, that wasted space means wasted gas. For greater efficiency, it’s common for long distance movers to wait until they’ve filled an entire truck with multiple moves.
Bundling is a common practice, and movers will do everything they can to keep your stuff separate and secured when there’s multiple moves in one trailer. You won’t have to pay as much, but you’ll have to wait a bit longer while they unload and load up any other moves on the CA – GA route.
How Much Does it Cost to Move from California to Georgia?
It costs between $5,100 to $19,400 for a cross country move from California to Georgia. It’s quite the spread, but it all comes down to how far you’re traveling, and how much stuff you’re putting in the truck.

How is Georgia Compared to California?
Georgia is pretty different from California.
Let’s start with price. According to Zillow, the median home price in Georgia is $325,000. That’s compared to California’s, which is just about $773,000 (although we all know it’ll be closer to a million if you want to live someplace that’s not Fresno or Bakersfield).
Planning on renting? Georgia’s median rent is $1,950 per month, which is almost a thousand bucks cheaper than California’s laughable $2,800 per month. (And just like the home prices, you know California rent is closer to $4k a month if you want live anywhere decent.)
Now that the money’s out of the way, let’s talk culture. California is notorious for blue-haired types, and Georgia… isn’t. You may want to change your license plates ASAP. You may also want to check out the different cities and towns you can call home. With 500,000 people, Atlanta’s Georgia’s biggest city. Columbus has 210,000, and Savannah has 150,000 or so.
If you’re looking for any semblance of city life, Atlanta’s probably your best bet. But if you want to escape to the countryside, there are plenty of small towns (like Edgehill, population 24) and slightly larger towns (like Peachtree City, population 38,000).
Assuming you hide your California origins well enough, you’re going to find plenty of Southern hospitality, plenty of things to do, and plenty of work opportunities. Georgia’s big on aerospace and agriculture, but they’re also big on logistics. And if you’re coming from LA, take heed: Georgia’s film and entertainment industry is on the rise.
Tips to Make Moving Easier
We’re ready to do your heavy lifting, but there’s plenty you can do to make your move even easier. Check out some of these hacks:
Avoid summer moves
Everyone wants to move when the kids are out of school, so June, July, and August have always been the priciest months for moving. Try to move in the fall or spring, and try to avoid major holidays or long weekends.
Compare multiple quotes
Try to get at least three different quotes from three different moving companies. This gives you a better idea of the average rates, and it’ll help you weed out scammers. If a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Pack an essentials bag
Get a backpack or a suitcase, and pack it like you’re going on a mini-vacation. You’ll be living out of this bag before, during, and after the move, so make sure it’s got your toiletries, chargers, and a few changes of clothes.
Downsize before shopping around
Long distance moving companies charge based on miles and mass. You can’t do much about the miles, but you can trim the fat before you shop for quotes. Don’t pay to move stuff you don’t want.
Book early
Try to book between two and three months in advance. It seems like a huge window, but look at it this way: That’s only like 12 weekends. When was the last time you went 12 weekends without something interrupting your plans?
Pack furniture
If possible, disassemble large furniture items like beds, desks, or shelves before the move. Keep the screws and small parts in a labeled bag taped to the piece of furniture.
Frequently Asked Questions
What factors affect your final price?
More miles, more mass, more dollars. It’s simple math. But there are still some extra fees you should look out for when you’re planning a California to Georgia move.
- Extras and add-ons: When you book your movers, you may have to pay extra for packing, furniture disassembly, junk removal, and other goodies. This can range from a few hundred bucks to a few thousand. The convenience is well worth the cost.
- Access fees: Moving companies charge access fees if they have to deal with a whole obstacle course to get to your front door. If you’ve got a long driveway and a gate, or your building has elevators, long hallways, and more, expect to pay a little extra.
- Moving insurance: This is an optional expense, but we recommend it. Movers do offer basic coverage free of charge, but you’ll only get $0.60 per pound of damaged items. Shell out a little more for full-value coverage if you want full reimbursement.
What is a binding quote?
When you see “binding quote”, it means your price is set in stone. Once you get a binding quote, your movers can’t adjust the price. We’ve seen some people take this as an invitation to sneak in a piano or extra sofa after they get their quotes, but don’t try it. Chances are, your movers will cancel the contract and leave you hanging.
What’s the difference between long distance moving and local moving?
Local movers handle relocations that are less than 100 miles and within the same state. Long distance movers take care of jobs that are over 100 miles and across state lines.
Local movers charge per hour, per mover. Long distance movers charge per mile, and per pound (although we’ve seen some that use cubic feet).
Long distance movers also need extra certifications to operate across state lines. We’ll go into that in the next question.
How can I tell if a moving company is legit?
All movers need to be licensed with the Department of Transportation (DOT). If they conduct interstate business, such as long distance moving companies, they also need to be certified with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).
When you’re on a mover’s website, look for their DOT number and their MC number. If they don’t display these numbers, don’t be afraid to ask.
Do I need moving insurance?
Yeah, we recommend moving insurance. In fact, moving companies are legally required to provide basic coverage for their customers (but it’s only good for $0.60 per pound of damaged or missing items). If you think your PS5 is worth more than like… ten bucks, pay a little extra for full-value insurance coverage. This is a good idea on long hauls, especially when you consider how bad the roads can be when you move from CA to Georgia.
What is the cheapest method of moving?
DIY moving is usually touted as the cheapest way to move – but unless you’re super disciplined, your savings can melt pretty quick. You’ll have to find a good deal on a truck rental, somehow avoid paying too much for gas, and figure out how you’ll eat and sleep without splurging on food and hotels from coast to coast. Pro movers may cost a little more, but the convenience is well worth it.
